Greece - Grace and Graffiti

A warm breeze, light crowds, delicious smells. Early evening was spent walking around the Plaka for our first taste of Athens. We made our way down Ermou avenue, a wide pedestrian street lined with trendy shops. Street vendors tempting us with roasted corn on the cob and coconut treats, well behaved stray dogs lying about trying to stay cool. We then entered the Plaka, a maze of narrow cobblestone streets where souvenir stores, restaurants and cafes are interspersed with ancient ruins, tiny churches and conspicuous graffiti. Glimpsess of the Acropolis looming high above, tourists like colourful ants swarming the temples off in the distance.
